*More focus on the original impetus of the newsletter. The idea of Never Retiring as to combat the soullessness of (much of) American life, place and culture.
*On-the-ground reporting from Spain, both generally as live gets lived and, specifically on how it comes together to get lived.
If I am correct, I think I can provide a good, better focused mix of both.
I’m excited to see more of the day to day stuff; what getting around is like, where you finally end up living, how the apartment hunting goes, What a “day in in the life” looks like once things settle down a bit, etc. The pics you’ve been sharing so far have been great.
It seems most beneficial to keep the original purpose of the Never Retire Newsletter. It is what originally drew me in and will continue to draw newcomers as the American-Way has only gotten harder to achieve. I don't see this changing without another crash. -which I know you will keep an eye on no matter where you are writing from.
Same with on-the-ground reporting, spurts of trying out your Spanish on the natives, and cost comparisons. It will validate everything you have been writing about here.
The visa and move related logistics are an extra bonus for anyone that is contemplating an out of country move. You will be one of the few that gives real and un-sugarcoated information.
"it scares and excites me simultaneously" = you are the edge of a major uplevel in your life. How incredibly exciting!
In addition to how life is in reality for you, of course I want to know about the food. I read a Medium piece you did about pizza toppings and for me it's more of this same kind of comparisons between what we "know" in North America as Spanish food compared to what it's like. But also those broader international cuisines as they appear there. Pizza there vs pizza here, or Mexican, or sushi.
And for me, more on those local food markets. The way people shop for and use local foods. These nuances help me understand what we could try to build more of here.
So excited for you! And looking forward to every post
Gonna be honest, I came here originally for the practical “never retire” content related to personal finance and outside-the-box thinking regarding working longevity. Focusing more on Spain Life would probably be too great of a shift for me to remain a paid subscriber.
That being said, I understand the importance of writing the content you feel energized to write about. Maybe a shift is in order? Or maybe you spin out a separate newsletter focused on Spain?
I appreciate the honesty. And I think you're right.
The Never Retire theme is important. It brought the newsletter to the dance! Part of it is that I don't want to merely sell a dream like many writers do. But, as someone in a private message said to me this morning, I can certainly go back to the idea of getting out of the rat race as a way to live better now and live longer more frequently. I think it's universally applicable.
So, duly noted. I think I can strike a nice balance.
I think I was the first person to fill out your survey but I picked the wrong answer on the first one. While I do appreciate your personal finance articles I’d like to hear more about living in Spain.
What I am seeing here is two distinct tracks:
*More focus on the original impetus of the newsletter. The idea of Never Retiring as to combat the soullessness of (much of) American life, place and culture.
*On-the-ground reporting from Spain, both generally as live gets lived and, specifically on how it comes together to get lived.

I'm with you.
I'm happy to hear this because it's probably what I look forward to writing about most.
D. All of the Above.

I love all of this. So many ideas. Thank you, Sue!
after getting settled in and on local time, a rundown of expenses on a monthly basis would be great
Visa specifics, residency specifics, foreign tax and living in Spain finances, starting a business in Spain (Melisse's)
I appreciate this.
I think I can bend it all together.
