Two-and-a-half years ago, I published one of my most controversial Medium articles to date. This was before I committed to making this newsletter the primary element of my semi-retired present and future. The article was about receiving an inheritance.
In today’s post, we update the facts, evolve my thinking and consider inheritances, with details on what mine looks like and how I factor it into my long-term financial planning. I define inheritance as the value of everything (e.g., cash, real estate) you’ll inherit from whomever decides to leave something to you.
Make no mistake, headed into relative old age, I’m focused on the things we focus on here: my housing expense, a low overall cost of living, smart and realistic saving and spending strategies and generating sustainable income from work I do less of now so I can do it longer. However, I’d be foolish to ignore the inheritance I will most likely receive.
