Never Retire: Pizza And A Review Of Our First Month In Spain
Plus, a deal for free subscribers
To commemorate the 37th consecutive day with a Never Retire newsletter story hitting your inbox, I’m running a quick, 24-hour sale on the first year of an annual subscription.
Subscribe now—using this link or the button below—and you’ll receive 25% off of the first year of an annual subscription.
Given how frequently I post, the best value remains a $100 or higher founding membership. I immediately convert all founding memberships into comped lifetime subscriptions, so this option pays for itself in no time. That said, I understand the desire for monthly and annual options. So—from time to time—I extend an offer.
That pizza is from a place I talk about frequently. La Finestra. They do mini surprise pizzas for €2.80 each alongside bottles of wine for €9. Last night, we had a bottle of wine, three pizzas and a salad for €24.40.
It’s a stone’s throw from our apartment. It’s one of the places we went to on our initial visit to Valencia. We love it. So it’s incredible to think we can walk there in literally one minute. And—in this neighborhood—you can walk to literally everything you need or want within a minute or just a little bit more.
If you come here, go there! It illustrates the diverse culture that exists in Valencia and much of Spain.
Almost anywhere you go, you see groups of “young” people, older folks, people like my wife and I and families with kids. Kids who have a lot more freedom to roam and be kids in public than we’re used to in the United States. While the crowd leans Spanish, it’s spread across ethnic groups with multiple languages in the air at any given time.
From place to place, block to block in this city, there’s just a wonderful atmosphere that’s a joy to be a small part of.
We have a reservation at a promising Italian place right around the corner. Maybe I will review it—with some images—alongside a post about food/eating style in Spain tomorrow or the next day.
Today—given how hard we have been going—I want to group a sampling of some recent posts as a way for you to catch up on anything you missed and to review the ground we have covered since arriving in Barcelona on January 3rd and Valencia on January 6th.
