Some of those smart Americans even moved to Canada because they were getting nowhere at home, including Jane Jacobs. She did good things for Canada's quality of life in the years she lived here.

I recently visited London for a week. I delighted in the pedestrian-friendly, mixed use neighbourhoods I found there, from Ilford to Windsor. I could not walk around any American city the way I can walk around Toronto or London.
I think Jacobs moved so her kids wouldn't have to go to Vietnam. I would've done the same.
On trips to Toronto I tried to figure out where she lived - near the University I think - but never found it. I have been by her place in Greenwich Village though.
