Amen. Most of those takes are either cynical plays at rage bait or a case of sour grapes. Both suck. In my experience, the average tourist just want to check tf out for a little bit and eat some different food.
The kind of tourism I think we need to find ways to curtail is the "chasing the things I saw on Insta or series XYZ." Busloads of tourists go to place X in Switzerland, hop off the bus, to take the same picture N others have already taken. They are literally passing through, clogging streets, venues etc. And maybe they don't even spend any money.
Cities, villages, even beauty spots need to push back on this. At the same time, making sure they are not pricing locals out of the market. Maybe make buses park miles away or some such.
Well said, man. It's a complex problem with a lot of moving parts. But that doesn't mean we need to simplify things to a knee-jerk response with only one cause. We can empathize with the people impacted by rent increases and still find ways to identify and fix the underlying problems instead of scapegoating the easiest target.
There's nothing better than seeing someone take a picture as a couple or of their partner or whoever and you can see that they're truly enjoying the moment and grateful to be having it. They're not posing for Instagram. Many of us are those people at one time or another, and we're lucky in that regard. The conversation loses sight of that simple human experience.

Agreed, 100%.
The worst offenders have taken this idea that the "locals" are poor to the brink of offensiveness.

I appreciate it. You said it.

Congratulations on the new addition!
