The Canadian side seems stuck in a time warp. Two casinos, the Hill. Nice view of the Falls. The U.S. side has the decades old developer issue ( one developer acquired lands..but local government forgot to put in a clause that they had to DO something with it ). Hence they did nothing, the lots and homws around them declined in value and they scooped those up too. Vacant lots and weeds. If there are local neighbourhoods growing, fantastic! I love visiting Niagara Falls and Buffalo.
My parents are in Niagara Falls, NY. It's really a shame what has happened/is happening there. Geographically the city literally has everything going for it. How it cannot be a legitimate companion to Toronto, Buffalo, the rest of Upstate NY and New York City is beyond me. At this point, the state needs to step in and take charge.
Yes. Toronto. And agree about local Niagara Falls USA stepping in to read those historic land use agreements and finally develop those lands. Quite frankly, as northern North America warms up, places like Niagara Falls should thrive ( and I snowmobile. Hasn't been a local trail open in southern Ontario for any duration..ie weeks..in a long time. It's simply warmer. Sure, it'll snow, Buffalo Bills game has move to an indoor venue. But most forget that one week later, the snow has melted. Odd. It is what it is ).
Huge fan on Niagara Falls and area. Wine growing ( and fruit ) will continue being fantastic in the years ahead. Probably more so. Extended season.
An extended period abroad is a great thing to do. I have done it 4x (Germany, Australia, New York twice)
Really living abroad for me should be about running towards something rather than away from something. As Rocco pointed out, each country has their own current mix of trials and tribulations.
I have been thinking about my family from the late 1800's. What they endured to come to the US and how they were treated after getting here -which was not well. They too were part of "not that many" that made it. They did it with seven children, for a better life, to be treated better than the country from which they were born. And when I say "country", I mean the leaders of their country.
Now I am doing it and for much of the same reasons. Except I am politically absent. Politics have never deeply affected my life, except for changing society around me. For me, it is the people.
"We’re talking about 18 years burning down the road."
Fantastically referenced. :)
Not for nothing, we stayed in that Embassy Suites in the picture last fall. Would love to go back an spend more time both there and in Buffalo.
I wonder how the Canadian side is doing these days? It used to be superior.
Buffalo, on the West Side, is doing great. If you go, check out Five Points. Very cool neighborhood.
We'll be hearing a lot of BIUSA this week! LOL.

Do you live in Southern Ontario?
