Rocco, The majority of your food spending is eating out. Is this a change from the USA? In my experience the social aspect of eating out is more important in Spain and Portugal, than in the US. Are many of your meals shared with friends or acquaintances?
We spend about the same going out here in Spain - sometimes more, sometimes less - in total each month. But, yes, we go out a lot more. Like a lot. I would say about 25% of our meals are with others, mainly on the weekends.
Here's a breakdown and another story you might find interesting on the subject.
"So, the other day, they told me they’d have them tomorrow. I walked up to the counter the next day and the lady had two hamburguesas de pollo con morcilla set aside for me."
I love that shopkeepers will do that for their customers! I asked our butcher for lamb once. He told me to return in a few days. Sure enough, not only did he have it but he happily ground it for me. Maybe I'd have gotten this service in the US but probably not without complaining. It's part of making connections.
I dream of the day when I don't have to download an app for every little life experience. To have unwrapped food available, instead of prepackaged in plastic everything. To have the personal service the woman gave you by setting aside your favorite chicken is priceless.
My TJ's experience has changed so much since you and Melisse moved. I price compare everything. lol!

It's pretty cool. I didn't even ask. And, to top it off, the product they serve is top notch.

I use to the game the stupid Pavillions app. I admit, it was fun. But it’s also sort of fucked up when you think about it.
Love the local angle.
Will be something we strive for when get to South Africa
