Never Retire: We Have Already Made Friends In Spain
And they're helping us in more ways than one
The other day, I was—admittedly—a little bit down. During and after a night out, I felt like I was struggling with the Spanish language. However, what a difference a day—and YOUR ATTITUDE—makes to quickly turns things around.
More on that in a second, but just so you know how the information flows.
With the time change, I schedule posts to publish at 3 p.m. in Spain, which is the usual 6 a.m. in Los Angeles. Therefore, I usually write each post one or two days in advance, the morning of (for me) the same day or a little bit on each day ahead of the publication time.
So—
You are getting the real-time account of how life is unfolding here in Spain, as it happens. I’m holding back very little and letting things flow. The posts aren’t perfectly manicured. They just relay how I am feeling and experiencing things as I am writing at a particular moment. I don’t see many newsletters that take this approach so I hope it’s useful, interesting, real and engaging.
I have so much I want to write about. I have to stop myself from doing it all in one post.
Tomorrow, I will do my best—via words, thoughts, observations and images—to describe what Valencia’s Russafa neighborhood—a bit of a controversial and gentrifying place—actually feels like on the ground.
Tuesday, I think I’ll discuss the cycling/bike culture and infrastructure here, as I see it based on the knowledge I have of other places and urban planning. There’s not much like it in other cities, at least in my experience and observation.
From there, I want to get into little things (I think) most others don’t notice that are different here, give you a feel of some other parts of the city and—hopefully—update the status of our resident permit (🇪🇸🤞) which is what starting a whole slew of practical tasks—(such as looking for an apartment)—hinges on.
But—today—one day you’re down, next day you’re up in the often overstimulating process of learning a new language through pretty deep immersion.
