After 49 consecutive days with a newsletter post, on day 50 I need a little break.
Sort of.
So, I check in today to say—
I have Sunday’s post teed up. In it, I tell you about the new Substack I plan to launch later this year. I also show you my new (used) bike and discuss (part of) my history and (what I see as part of my) future riding bicycles.
Today, we have plans. My wife and I are meeting wonderful people through my writing. Quite a few folks are making contact. Last week, I received an Instagram message from a girl who told me that her Dad reads me on Medium, but doesn’t use social media. He wondered if he could email me. I said yes. And—long story short—we’re going to lunch today with a local family (father, mother, daughter, mother-in-law, me and my wife). The Spanish are welcoming people.
Thanks to all of the new paid subscribers. I feel like the newsletter is delivering considerable value in 2025. Yes, there’s volume, but there’s also substance. With each post, I try to cover something practical or something more psychological—(or both!)—not merely about moving abroad, but about living life and living it well, whether you’re headed into your second act like me or at some other exciting and maybe pivotal point.
If you have not already, please upgrade to a paid subscription or founding membership. For $100 or more, a founding membership scores you a comped lifetime subscription. You help ensure I can write this newsletter for the duration. And you’ll help support my livelihood. Because writing is not my side hustle. I do other writing—(which is part of why I need a little break)—but would love to focus more on Substack and less on everything else. However, to do this requires a much larger paid subscriber base. That’s just how the cookie crumbles.
Enjoy your weekend. I hope you like tomorrow’s post. I am excited about it.
Here are a few of my favorite Never Retire newsletter stories from the past week.
