Never Retire: I Turn 50 With a Bike Ride and Some Quiet Clarity
Half a century down. Now I just want to live the next half as well as I can.
I already wrote about turning 50 one month ago exactly, as it pertains to life in Spain and wanting to live—to its fullest—for as long as I possibly can.
But today is the day. July 18th. I am officially 50 years old.
I don’t really like writing posts like this. Because turning 50 somehow feels like both a big deal—and not at all. But—big deal, not, or something in between—given the theme of this newsletter, I feel the need to remark on having lived half a freaking century.
Now, I just want to live another half—and do it as well as I can.
This move to Spain has taught me a lot about myself. Or reaffirmed some things I have always known and recently came to know. Bike rides help me make sense of it all—as I pedal around talking to myself.
For example—and I think this is super important. Also, I hope I say this right and well.
