It has been said I have a gypsy soul.. moving around every few years, not planting roots. For me, it is more not finding my place, not feeling that I belong somewhere, so I move on. I vacation not to say I have been somewhere, I travel to see if another place, culture, or lifestyle feels like I could live there forever. When I go somewhere, I don't spend money on things I wouldn't if I lived there. I want to enjoy my home, and enjoy the neighborhood, and enjoy the people around me every day. Enjoy life itself.
“But I don’t want to live out of a suitcase, chasing novelty just to say I’ve been somewhere”
My company is lousy with this sort of person; the type that will fly to Europe, walk outside the airport, and walk right back in for no other reason than to get some new ink on their passport. I mean it’s fun to say you’ve done it… once. After that? No thanks.
The only person who can go that is Noel Phillips. If you haven't watched him yet, make time. You will love his stuff. Though, on second thought, you might end up wasting a lot of time watching him!
How is your company lousy with that type of person?
Oh, I already fell down the Noel Phillips rabbit hole thanks to you! The first one I saw was his trip to St. Helena and that’s all it took. lol.
Lousy as in “full of.” There are tons of people who go on trips but don’t actually visit the destination country. I’m all for quick getaways. 48 hours in London? You bet! But when you literally don’t leave the footprint of the airport? Pass.
That's crazy!! So they go through passport control and then onto another flight!?
His videos are something else. I am not sure if I saw that one. I am not sure how he can handle the rigor of so many hours on planes and the transfers, even when he flies first class and stays in nice hotels. He recently flew Emirates first class I think it was - pretty incredible. He also took the longest domestic flight in the US - Boston to Honolulu!
Totally with you on the notion that taking a trip is not to “get away from” which is running from something in MLP, neuro linguistic programming terms, rather “going to experience somewhere else” which is running to something.
The “splurge we are on vacation” angle is not high on my to do list.
