My niece frequently asks me some variation of this question: Is it the best decision you’ve made getting out of the US and moving?

I’m never sure how to respond.

So I always give her a generic—We love it here, We’re doing great—response.

I’ll tell you why I go with that response. And I’ll answer the question for real in today’s Never Retire newsletter story. My perspective applies to big life decisions, not only the choice to move abroad.

But first—

Thanks to those of you who have decided to support my forthcoming Substack, Friki de Bici (Bike Geek). It means a lot.

I expect to launch Friki de Bici in the next few weeks. Then, we take the project global during our mid-May to mid-June trip to San Francisco, Barcelona, Paris and Amsterdam.

There are lots of moving parts to make this happen—website and merch costs, travel expenses and my time.

Friki de Bici will be more than a Substack. Later this month, I will tell you more about my plans. In the shell of a nut, they mix my passions for cities, urban planning and cycling for transportation, fun and exercise. Consider Friki de Bici my little contribution to the incredible bike cultures that exist in cities around the world.

Support Friki de Bici (Bike Geek) Now!

An upgraded Never Retire newsletter subscription—(free to paid or monthly/annual to founding/lifetime)—does the same trick, helping me dedicate my time and resources to my real passions. These two newsletters.

For additional perspective on all of the above and more, read these Never Retire newsletter stories after you read today’s, which is all about big decisions in life. They don’t happen in relatively impulsive vacuums. Or, at least, they shouldn’t.
