Never Retire From Naples: The Impact Of The Built Environment On Housing And Transportation

What you see in that video might be our best moment in Naples so far.

Honestly, I needed this type of experience.

Melisse and I tend toward no-frills places for our morning coffee, especially in Italy. The other morning we went to a place our Airbnb host recommended. It was touristy, relatively expensive and not very good.

So today we went to the first and most straightforward looking cafe we found.

I’m not even sure of the name of the place. And I can’t find it on Google.

But it’s family-run. The son—probably in his 20s—made us the best coffee we’ve had so far in Naples. And he struck up a conversation with us. After we told him we’re from LA, he said he cousin lives there. This brought Mom and Dad out of the kitchen.

We kept chatting and they invited us into the kitchen as they prepared lasagna.

Layering pieces of meatball is exactly how my family does it.

Sadly, my family isn’t big on history. So I don’t know much about where my great grandparents are from. But I think, at least on my Grandma’s side, they’re from the south. Because lots of the food—not to mention mannerisms and personality styles!—remind me of her. Like the lasagna making process!

Here’s Melisse and I making our own not long ago—

Four cappuccinos and a cornetto at this place without a name (we’ll go back and find out) cost us about 7.00 euros!
