My wife calls me pata caliente.

It basically means someone who can’t sit still. Someone who’s always going in and out of the house. It’s a Latin American expression, particularly in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Cuba, and—where my wife is from—Puerto Rico.

In Spain, the equivalent is culo inquieto (restless butt).

She’s not wrong.

On a typical day, I probably leave the house eight to ten times.

Not for big things. But for small things. Most of the time, for nothing in particular.

When we lived in Los Angeles, I also had pata caliente. But my options were limited.

Let me show you by making the comparison.
