In today’s post, we kick off a discussion on issues related to citizenship and visas. Because, if my partner and I want to relocate to Spain or Italy, we need a way (or ways) to enter and remain in the country legally.
It might end up that I learn as much from you as you do from me. Because I’m still in the process of navigating the somewhat complicated waters of how to most easily and effectively relocate. That said, as I will begin to detail today—
I might have an ace in the hole I’m ready to go all-in on.
I have some previous experience with becoming a dual citizen. Call it a much easier, dry run that I’ll walk you through.
As I initiate the European process, I will keep you updated every step of the way. Right now I am in the preliminary phase of determining first steps. Later this year or early next, I intend to do whatever I need to do to take the path of least resistance, which could be citizenship or a Spanish or Italian visa if citizenship proves too difficult or expensive. Once that’s complete, the move happens—hopefully—shortly thereafter. Included in this timeline is saving money to a point where the move can happen as comfortably and seamlessly as possible.
But, before we commence all of that, let’s do this.
A quick update on the promotion I announced the other day, as we make our way to 200 paid subscribers:
So, if you’re “caller” number 194, 195, 196, 197, 198 or 199, I will add one free month to your subscription.
Go with the $5 monthly option and you get one month free.
Go with the $50 annual option and I will extend your subscription by one month, effectively making it a 13- rather than 12-month plan.
Then, lucky “caller” number 200 gets whatever subscription they sign up for converted to a lifetime subscription.
As I write this, we’re at 196 paid subscribers.
So, to reiterate, #197, #198 and #199 get one month added to their monthly or annual subscription.
And #200 gets whatever subscription they sign up for converted to a lifetime subscription. Pay once and you're set for life.
I also want to mention that
will be doing a great guest post for us on housing later this month. A homeowner in Canada, Ben writes on Substack and Medium.Expect more of this as we continue to evolve the newsletter with different voices and expanded content on travel, health and other issues pertinent to living the semi-retired life now and for the duration.
Speaking of Canada!
