Many people decide to move abroad to lower their cost of living or get more for their money. While there’s a clear distinction between these two objectives, some folks blend the two.

For example—

I can get a much larger home in another country for the same price as I would pay for a much smaller home in my current country. But I can spend less on almost everything else.

Not my thing, but reasonable nevertheless. And a matter to discuss on another day.

With so much talk about and interest in moving abroad, it’s timely to discuss some of the costs you might expect to incur to apply for and—hopefully—secure a visa. Granted, I can only speak to my experience preparing to apply for Spain’s digital nomad visa, but I think things such as translation costs are pretty much universal.

So, let’s do a rundown of the expenses my wife and I have paid or expect to pay for the privilege of—upon a successful application—being granted residency in Spain.
