For a review of what we’re doing here and what we’ve done, see the first three posts of this special February series, on location in Spain and, eventually, Italy.

  • Assessment of your situation

  • Acknowledgement of your situation

  • Acceptance of your situation

This is post #4 of 20 for the month of February.

In addition to photography and highlights from the cities we visit and a breakdown of how we spent our money each day to compare the cost of living in Spain and Italy to the U.S. and elsewhere, each post includes:

  • A Never Retire checklist item. A total of 20 practical money/work/life-related boxes you need to check to live the semi-retired life you wanna live now and for the duration.

In March, I’ll do 20 posts in 31 days, meticulously detailing each of the 20 items.

Today’s Never Retire checklist item: Theorizing your situation.

After you assess, acknowledge, and accept (embrace!) your situation, you have to visualize what it could look like now and for the duration. Theorize before you strategize.

That’s how my brain works.

In fact, I write articles and tell stories like this. In my head, I outline what I want to say. Then when I sit down to write, the words flow turning my visualization into something concrete.

The same goes for developing crucial money meets life personal financial strategies.

Post #4 in March builds on this and focuses on Theorizing your situation. Theorizing before you strategize.

You might have an idea what checklist item #5 will be when the next installment of the Never Retire newsletter—which I will write on a train from Valencia to Madrid—hits.

This little pizza is part of the best meal I’ve ever had when you factor taste, presentation, atmosphere and price equally. You won’t believe the price.

Food—at home and in restaurants—is a major factor when we discuss cost of living.

Details to follow…
