The potential subsidies being offered to carriers for service to A Coruña sounds quite similar to the Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP) here. Airports/communities offer up subsidies for carriers in an attempt to entice them to begin/continue service to certain markets.
We have been back in our "home village" of Lenzerheide in Eastern Switzerland over the summer. First time we have spent an extended period of time in the summer for many a year.
We were amazed at the visitor levels, particularly the number of families with younger kids and the number of bikers. Look up "Bike Kingdom". Totally great. We also really noticed the services and infrastructure on offer. Families seem to come in large part from Switzerland, judging by the plates on the cars.
This is all totally super, and we can see the very deliberate strategy of attracting locals and not, like some resorts, being dependent on "overseas" (sic) tourism.
What we see is a very deliberate tourism strategy that is holistic; all the winter things you'd expect of a mountain resort, plus a deliberate summer plan, all with an appeal to families and sporty types.
As for low quality tourism… how did that work for Bali and Thailand? Look at the numerous changes Thailand is making and/or considering… I am gonna leave that last part right there……
I am one to plan in advance to get the best fares. This allows me to spend a little more on nicer accommodations and have extra spending money while I am there.
I understand not wanting low quality tourism, but without those rates, I would be more or less stuck in a lower quality situation. The type of low quality actions you described, would be a no go for me. I would rather skip it instead of having to experience it.
