We had to make a change on the fly. Because Airbnb cancelled our reservation.

I’m not an Airbnb hater. The company receives blame for longstanding and complicated urban problems it didn’t create, has no business ameliorating or could have never foreseen. We love a good scapegoat. And Airbnb is the perfect one.

Anyhow, we received an email this morning that they cancelled one of our reservations. So, we put the process I explained last month into motion and booked a new apartment in less than 15 minutes. We explored the options and neighborhoods from bed. And, as Google Street View makes clear, we’re likely to be super pleased.

I’m a big believer in you get what you give. And while I dislike the whole notion of leaving things up to the universe, I do believe your attitude can—in some way we can’t quite put our fingers on—dictate your experience.

Sometimes this is tangible. Very practical. You walk up to the gate agent at the airport angry and entitled and the gate agent is less likely to be pleasant with you.
